Thursday Night Insight Week 3 - 2021 Fantasy Football

Carolina Panthers vs. Houston Texans

Panthers Fantasy Insight

Sam Darnold and the Panthers look to have an easier task than the Texans’ former matchups with Tyrod Taylor out of the lineup. With him out, the offensive efficiency will go down and therefore, the Carolina offense will have a higher time of possession. Sam Darnold has scored just over 18 fantasy points in the first two weeks of the season. He’s currently the QB15 and is a decent starting option in Week 3, especially if you have a weak QB room.

Christian McCaffrey is always a must start and is currently sitting as the RB2. Expect more big numbers again from him this week against a subpar Texans defense. Dan Arnold isn’t someone to get excited about. Personally, he is someone I’m steering clear of considering he’s the TE31.

The wide receiver core in D.J. Moore, Robby Anderson and Terrace Marshall are one that is intriguing this week. Moore is a must start WR2 for your team and is currently sitting at WR18. Robby Anderson is a hesitant flex play for me as he hasn’t seen the same usage he saw last year and has mustered up a WR43 start to the season. Marshall will remain on my bench even with the spicy matchup because it’s clear he’s the 4th pass catching option behind the other two wideouts and McCaffrey.

The Panthers D/ST is one that you absolutely want to start as I expect a lot of turnovers from the rookie quarterback Davis Mills.

Texans Fantasy Insight

Speaking of turnovers and Davis Mills, don’t start him this week even in Superflex formats! You’ll want to stay far away from this guy and will only want to pick him up on your bench in super deep league formats and Superflex ONLY.

The running back core is a wasteland as Mark Ingram (RB25), Phillip Lindsay (RB30) and David Johnson (RB37) all eat into each other's fantasy production. I’d stay far away from all these guys all season unless injuries occur and a clear RB1 is established.

Houston’s wide receivers took a hit with Nico Collins being placed on IR, but the return of Anthony Miller is among us. Brandin Cooks remains a must start even with Mills at quarterback. I expect him to get peppered in targets. Mills will feel most comfortable throwing the ball to their best player. The remaining pass catchers in Anthony Miller, Chris Conley, Danny Amendola, Jordan Akins and Pharaoh Brown should remain firmly on your bench.

Along with that long list of pass catchers, sit the Texans D/ST in Week 3.
