Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers

Lions Fantasy Insight

Jared Goff finished as the QB3 as he got a ton of garbage time fantasy points while almost leading the Lions to a huge comeback. Don’t expect this kind of production going forward, but he should be a solid streaming QB in both 1QB and Superflex formats. Detroit wide receivers aren’t super appealing in Quintez Cephus who led the team in targets with 7 (3 receptions, 12 yards, 1 TD), Amon-Ra St. Brown with 4 targets (2 receptions, 23 yards) and Tyrell Williams with 3 (2 receptions, 14 yards). Tyrell is currently in concussion protocol, so I’d avoid him this week. Honestly I’d avoid all three WRs. Instead, T.J. Hockenson will be the pass catcher you want all season for the Lions. He saw 10 targets, only behind Swift’s 11, and caught 8 of them for 97 yards and a TD. He’s a must start TE, and I believe will be a top 5 TE this season with plenty of potential to finish even higher. Start him every week with confidence.

The Detroit RBs had a field day in fantasy in Week 1 combining for 49.4 fantasy points. D’Andre Swift has been someone I have been advocating for all offseason as a steal in your drafts. I saw many analysts advise to bench him for Week 1. I was not that person and loved the result I got. He saw as many targets as he did carries--11. He ran for only 39 yards, but caught 8 of those targets for 65 yards and a TD. I will continue to advocate for Swift as he’s going to continue to be a PPR monster. He gets an easier defense this week and will be even more involved in the game plan as he wasn’t even named the starting RB, Jamaal Williams was. Speaking of Williams, he also balled out, carrying the ball 9 times for 54 yards and a TD while catching 8 of 9 targets for an additional 56 yards. I don’t expect him to continue this type of production, but if he keeps seeing a similar target share, he’ll be a flex worthy option throughout the 2021 season. He’s someone who I’d be willing to take a chance on starting him. For me personally, this is the perfect time to trade Williams and get a very solid return for him.

Packers Fantasy Insight

This section will be much shorter than the rest because Green Bay wasn’t anywhere close to where they were as a team last year in Week 1. Like Aaron Rodgers said on The Pat McAfee Show, “It was just one of those days. You play long enough, you’ll have one of those. We had one of those last year, too.” It’s clear that the whole team will bounce back, especially against this Detroit defense. Aaron Rodgers should give you QB1 numbers, Davante Adams will be a WR1 and Aaron Jones should also see RB1 numbers. A fierce comeback week is coming for this team. I would stay away from Robert Tonyan if you have a better TE to start, but if you’re in a pinch, he will probably give you low-end TE1 or high-end TE2 fantasy production in Week 2. Guys like Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Randall Cobb, AJ Dillon and Allen Lazard can all be in flex consideration in deep leagues.
