2021 Fantasy Football
Dallas Cowboys vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Cowboys Fantasy Insight
The Cowboys will face a tough task in Week 1 against the the Bucs and their dominant defensive front. Dallas will also be without their starting right guard, Zach Martin, due to Covid-19. Due to this, I would temper expectations you may have for the Cowboys offense, as this is Dak’s first game back since Week 5 in 2020. He will be rusty and won’t have much time in the pocket to find his guys in Cooper, Lamb and Gallup. Cooper and Lamb are still must-starts, but Gallup would be someone I’d want to keep out of my flex for this matchup. Cooper and Lamb could be WR2’s against the Tampa defense, but their talent could allow them both to be WR1’s. It’s important to temper high expectations though. I think this benefits Ezekiel Elliott the most because Dak will utilize him on check downs as he gets more comfortable getting back into the game-like atmosphere. Zeke will be targeted early and often and will eat here in Week 1 against Tampa Bay. With Martin out, his rushing might not be as efficient, but in PPR formats, he’ll get a lot of passing work. I expect him to be a top 5 RB in Week 1. Tony Pollard might be a sneaky flex play this week as well. He could have a RB2 type performance. Tight ends Blake Jarwin and Dalton Schultz will feed into each other a lot this season if they both stay healthy, but we aren’t sure how they will end up, so they should be avoided for now. If you play with defenses, the Cowboys D/ST should also be avoided at all costs.
Buccaneers Fantasy Insight
Tampa Bay has a spicy matchup, and one that should come with a whole lot of fantasy points for Bucs fantasy players. Tom Brady should pick apart this defense and have a top 10 fantasy week, which the pass catchers will benefit from. Chris Godwin, Mike Evans and Antonio Brown will have WR1 upside, but it will mostly depend on who gets the touchdowns. Godwin could be out of Week 1 with a quad injury, so that is something to keep an eye on. I do expect all to see a nice volume in the offense and gain plenty of yards against this defense. The Bucs should win this game pretty comfortably, and with that, Ronald Jones and Leonard Fournette should get a solid amount of rushing volume. I’m low on Fournette and would keep him on my bench, but Rojo would be a great flex option and could be a RB2/RB3 this week. Rob Gronkowski, O.J. Howard and Cameron Brate are all guys you shouldn’t be starting and will completely rely on touchdowns for fantasy production. Gronk is the best option out of all of these if you have to choose one. The Bucs D/ST should see a lot of sacks with the Dallas depleted O-Line, while Dak may take a game to get used to the speed of the game, which means turnovers should be prevalent. I expect that defense to be top 3 in Week 1.
